Is “Custom” Really all that?

Here at PrintMyThing, we’re all about custom labeling and branding.  It’s what we’ve been doing for 28 years and as a result, we’ve gotten fairly good at it.  The ability to produce a custom label in short runs is one of our specialties.  Helping companies and individuals to be able to create their image or brand is what we’re passionate about, because we know that dynamic custom branding and imaging works.

Traditional thought behind branding says to stick with your image so people are familiar with it.  I don’t want to dispute this time tested fact.  But I’d like to propose the theory that changing one’s “image” regularly can be just as effective.

Now before you fall off your chair in protest, let me give you an example.

Jones Soda Company has been regularly changing their glass pop bottle labels since 1996 or so.  Sure they have a consistent overall “look.”  (Black and white labels, consistent font on their company name, etc.)  However, the most eye catching part of their label changes constantly: customer photos.

In an interview with the Puget Sound Business Journal in March of 2001, Jones Founder Peter Van Stolk said, “I wanted to create a product that would make an emotional connection.”  How did he accomplish this?  He offered his customers the chance to design the labels that would be attached to Jones Soda bottles.  To this day, anyone can submit their own photos to the company in hopes that it will be used on the Jones product.  Talk about an easy way to gain customer loyalty and excitement!  The customers are doing dynamic imaging work for the company!  Jones took the idea even further.  The company launched a website that allowed customers to make personalized 12-packs of Jones Soda.  Customers were able to scan their photographs and create their own labels.  (Remember using scanners before digital cameras were so prevalent?  My scanner is sitting up on a shelf in my closet.)  Those files were then downloaded to the company’s office, packed, and shipped to the customer.  Jones has had wild success bonding with their customers through dynamic custom imaging and labeling.

All of this sounds strangely familiar, doesn’t it?

We realize that not every company and individual will be able to produce their own labels, and that’s why we’re here.  PrintMyThing allows you to produce full color digital labels that will provide you with the dynamic, professional look that you’ve been wanting.

“Yes, you can do that, but you’re going to make me buy hundreds of rolls, and I don’t need or want that many!”

Good news: We can do a four color process digital label for you, and you can buy as few as 250 labels if need be.

How’s that for flexible and dynamic?  Would you let us help you create a connection with your customers by producing your custom, dynamic, engaging image?  In an increasingly custom, dynamic, engaging marketplace it only makes sense.
