I was going to get out and do some shooting myself this past weekend, but I ended up being too busy and wasn’t able to make it out. However, I DO plan on heading out after we get the 2-4″ the forecasters are predicting for us here in Northwest Ohio tomorrow & Wednesday. Shooting in the snow can always be a fun photographic challenge, as you want to try and expose the picture properly so that the snow doesn’t look gray. In fact, here’s a link to a page that explains some different methods for exposing your picture properly when there are large expanses of snow in the frame:  Exposing Snow.

A couple of years ago, I managed to capture this shot with a simple Sony Cybershot point & shoot camera. It’s been one of my favorites for a long while.

As you can see, I didn’t expose the picture properly (the snow is too gray for my liking…now), but overall, I like it due to the detail of the snow, and the “spikey” growths of this tree and such.

Be creative, get out there and try to look at the environment around  you with a different perspective. Get down low…take pictures at a different angle. Use the rule of thirds to frame your picture. Just get out there and get some pictures. The more you take and experiment, the better your chances for getting “just that right shot.” It’s fun, and you’ll have a shot at winning those free business cards!

It’s official, the cute couple photo contest is off and running. You may know that this is the 3rd contest we’ve run recently and each one has gotten a little better, more organized, more focused and I think more fun. Our first two contests were strictly for babies or young kids. We had so much fun looking at all the photos as they came in and the voting was certainly no easy task.

For our latest contest we’ve decided to move up in the age categories a bit and see what Cute Couples there are out there. I know there’s a lot of you and I know you’ve got to have some fun photos of the two of you. There aren’t any age requirements, so we hope to see cute couples in many stages of life and age ranges. Don’t forget that now’s the time to start thinking about your Christmas cards anyway, so think of this as sort of a head start to getting your greeting cards ready and if you win the contest, you’ll get your cards for free (100 of them at least).
